Hydropower Development at the New Cumberland and Pike Island

Locks and Dams on the Ohio River (West Virginia and Ohio)

Berger is assisting GenPower in the development of hydropower at the New Cumberland and Pike Island lock and dams on the Ohio River. Both projects will be constructed at existing Corps dams located on the reach that forms the border between West Virginia and Ohio. Berger assisted GenPower with obtaining a 2-year extension from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to construct the projects, which were both issued original licenses in 1989. Berger is assisting GenPower with developing effective approaches for complying with license articles addressing water quality, fish entrainment, and development of memoranda of agreement with the Corps to ensure that the projects do not adversely affect navigation, flood control, and recreational fishing.GenPower

Berger also possesses excellent experience with lock and dam structures. For example, we are assisting GenPower in the development of hydropower at the New Cumberland (pictured) and Pike Island lock and dams on the Ohio River. Both projects will be constructed at existing Corps dams located on the reach that forms the border between West Virginia and Ohio. Berger assisted GenPower with obtaining a two-year extension from FERC to construct the projects, which were both issued original licenses in 1989. Berger is now assisting GenPower with developing effective approaches for complying with license articles addressing water quality, fish entrainment, and development of Memorandums of Agreement with the Corps to ensure that the projects do not adversely affect navigation, flood control, and recreational fishing.
